The Certificate in Computational Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) is open to any student pursuing a graduate level degree at Georgia Tech.

The certificate is structured around two sets of courses, including a core course in CMSE and three specialized elective courses.

For Materials Science and Engineering graduate students, coursework for this certificate can be counted toward the MSMSE or Ph.D. degree. The certificate can be received without taking more than the 30 credits required for the MSMSE degree by counting certificate courses as electives in your program of study. The certificate can be received without taking more than the 25 (with MS) or 31 (with BS) credits required for the Ph.D. degree by counting certificate courses as MSE Approved Electives or Minor courses in your program of study.

Curriculum for CMSE Certificate

1. Core Course (3 credit hours): MSE 6140 Computational Materials Science and Engineering

2. Three specialized elective courses drawn from the following list (9 credit hours):

  • MSE 8803-X Density Functional Theory for Materials Scientists
  • MSE 8803-X Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo Methods
