AVAILABLE FACULTY POSITIONS
The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) is seeking to add outstanding faculty, primarily at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants with exceptional creativity, originality, and record of excellence may also be considered at the Associate/Full Professor levels. We are also seeking an eminent scholar for an endowed (Hightower) chair in the area of biopolymers.
The Hightower Chair will be the focal point for research and teaching in biopolymers, an area that crosses many disciplines from sustainable energy to bio- and nano-technology. The Hightower Chair will be expected to foster interactions with faculty from across the Institute, who are involved in research in polymeric materials having a biological origin or function.
The School of Materials Science and Engineering merged with the (former) School of Polymer, Textile, and Fiber engineering in 2010. It is now one of the largest MSE programs in the country, having close to 40 full-time faculty (FTEs), who are working on all classes of materials including metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites for a wide range of functions and applications. A number of faculty from various other programs at Georgia Tech hold joint appointments in MSE, and likewise several MSE faculty hold similar joint appointments across various schools and colleges. As the hub for materials-related research and education at Georgia Tech, MSE fosters interdisciplinary and original research spanning across following thrust areas: Advanced Structural Materials; Biologically-Enabled and Bio-Inspired Materials; Computational Design and Modeling; Materials for Energy Storage and Harvesting; Fibers and Composites; Functional Electronic and Optical Materials; Nanomaterials and Nanoengineered Devices; Polymers and Macromolecules, and Structural and Chemical Characterization. The School of Materials Science and Engineering, and the College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, are amongst the top-ranked programs in the U.S.
Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in materials science and engineering or related science/engineering discipline, possess a distinguished record of accomplishments and research publications appropriate to the academic rank of application, and demonstrate the potential to develop an innovative research and educational program in any of the areas listed above. Successful candidates will be expected to lead independent research at the cutting edge of their field, attract external funding to build a strong sponsored-research program, successfully mentor graduate students, and develop and teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. Interested candidates must submit an online application which includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research interest and teaching philosophy, and at least five names of references, at the following website: https://www2.mse.gatech.edu/msefacrecruit/application/index.asp. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled. Selection process will include passing a pre-employment background screening.
Georgia Tech is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Applications from women and under-represented minorities are strongly encouraged.
